Mary was elected to the City Council in 1982 and served until 1991. She was again elected in 1997 and has served consecutively since then.. She served as Mayor Pro tem (1989/1990 and 1998/2006) and as Mayor (1985/1989 and August 2006/October 2009, being appointed again by Council on October 6, 2009. She will serve as Mayor throughout her term, ending in October 2012.

 

Mary Leigh Dowling

 

 


 

 

Mary has resided in Delta Junction since 1960, other than time spent attending college out of state. She holds a B.A. with a major in Library Science from Florida State and an M.L.S. from the University of British Columbia. She retired as school librarian in 2003, having been employed as the librarian at the Delta-Greely School since 1977. Presently she is employed as a school library aide, is a long-time member of the Delta Library Association, and Historian for the local Women’s Igloo of Pioneers of Alaska. Her hobbies include grandchildren, bird watching, growing violets, berry picking, and reading.

JW was appointed to serve on the City Council on August 15, 2006, was elected to a one-year term on October 3, 2006, and re-elected to three-year terms on October 2, 2007 and again on October 5, 2010.

JW has been a city resident since 1956, is employed as a technician for Alyeska, and pilots a Super Cub in his spare time.

Sebastian was elected to serve on the City Council on October 4, 2011.


 



Sebastian has lived in the Delta area his entire life, and has lived inside the city limits since 1990, except for a few years while attending UAF. He works in the family business, which provides land surveying throughout Interior Alaska. He is an avid amateur photographer who enjoys the outdoors. Sebastian is excited to serve and participate in the local city government.

Sherman was appointed to the City Council on June 2, 2009 and elected on October 6, 2009. He was re-elected to a 3-year term on October 5, 2010.

  Sherman Stebbins

Sherman came to Alaska in 2003 to work at the Missile Defense at Ft. Greely.  He had fifteen years serving the U.S. Army, four years of that with the State of Alaska Army Guard. He completed two tours in the Middle East and one with the State of Alaska.  Sherman is a small business owner, specializing in repair of small engines and ATVs. He enjoys working in the greenhouse, canoeing, fishing, and traveling with his wife, Rachelle.

Dawn was elected to the City Council on October 7, 2008, re-elected on October 6, 2009, and will serve her term through October 2012.
 

 

Dawn Grossmann

Dawn and her family have resided in Delta since 1981. A home-schooling mother of four grown children and a grandmother of one, she has been active in many local organizations, including Delta Homeschool Association, Deltana Fair, Forget-Me-Knot Quilters, Delta Skating and Hockey Association, her church, and the Delta Youth Court. Dawn is retired from teaching preschool after 15 years. She is Supervisor of the weather station at Ft. Greely’s Allen Army Airfield, where she has been employed since 1996. Currently Dawn is in her fifth year as a Commissioner, appointed by the governor on the Serve Alaska - Alaska Community Service Commission. She is presently serving as chair of the commission. In her free time, Dawn enjoys quilting, scrap booking, gardening, traveling, and her family and friends.

Nickole was appointed to fill a vacancy on November 1, 2010 and she was elected to the same seat, for a three-year term, on October 4, 2011.

 

 

 Nickole Porter

Nickole, a third generation Delta resident, graduated from Delta-Greely High School in 1994. She has worked in local businesses for over 25 years, starting at the age of 9 washing dishes at the Evergreen to working on her engineering degree while employed by Boeing
on the missile Defense Complex. Nickole and husband, Sam, operate a fabrication business and have three children. Nickole is currently involved in The Moose Lodge, Interior Girls Softball Association, Alaska Softball Association, Delta Skating Association, and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Hobbies … “Who has time for those?” Family … “It’s all about doing everything together!”

Pete was appointed to serve on the City Council on August 7, 2007 and was elected to three-year terms on October 2, 2007 and October 5, 2010. He was appointed Mayor Pro tem on October 8, 2008, October 13, 2009, October 12, 2010, and October 11, 2011.  Pete retired in July 2007 after a twenty-eight year career as an attorney, followed by eight years as City Administrator for the City of Delta Junction.

 

Pete Hallgren

Pete moved to Alaska in 1971 and served the City & Borough of Sitka for twenty years as borough attorney, assembly member, and mayor. He is a racecar enthusiast and also enjoys four-wheeling, hunting, and traveling.
